The Catholic Bishop of Tambura-Yambio has launched a tree-planting project on 3rd October 2024, at St. Joseph Church in Maingbangaru, Western Equatoria State.
His Lordship Barani Edwardo Hiiboro launched the activity in a bid to promote environmental conservation
The initiative is part of a broader campaign aimed at raising awareness about environmental issues and encouraging the local community to adopt sustainable practices.
Speaking during the launch, Bishop Hiiboro highlighted the crucial role trees play in maintaining ecological balance and combating climate change.
The clergyman emphasized that planting trees is a vital step in ensuring a greener and healthier future.
“The choice of mahogany trees is particularly meaningful due to their durability and environmental benefits, such as enhancing biodiversity and contributing to long-term forest sustainability.” Says the Bishop
“This project marks the beginning of what is expected to be a series of conservation efforts by the Diocese.” He adds.
Bishop Hiiboro has expressed his commitment to expanding these initiatives in the coming months, demonstrating the Catholic Church’s dedication to creating a healthier and more sustainable environment for all.
