The Mayor of Western Equatoria’s Yambio Town Municipality has urged the youth to avoid indulging in criminal activities, stressing the importance of maintaining peace and security in the region.

John Singira Miariewari expressed concern over the recent rise in criminal attacks within Yambio Town.

In a media briefing on Monday, Singira revealed that incidents in recent weeks have resulted in injuries, including two members of the unified forces and a civilian.

He added that properties particularly those belonging to vendors operating at night near the Masia trading area, have been lost or damaged.

Singira attributes the continuous surge in criminal activities to the reported escape of a suspect from Yambio Central Prison on Sunday.

“These incidents are occurring due to a lack of proper oversight by those responsible for managing the situation.” The mayor stated.

He said state authorities, in collaboration with the police, are actively working to recapture the fugitive.

He called on community leaders to identify and report individuals involved in criminal activities to enable authorities to take appropriate action.

He appealed to the youth of Western Equatoria State to steer clear of criminal activities, emphasizing that such acts negatively affect the entire region.

Singira called for stronger prison management to prevent further escapes and reduce crime.
