The first marathon event happened last week, in Uganda’s Northern town of Arua. The purpose is to fundraise towards improving services of South Sudanese refugees, living in Uganda. Everyone, majorly Ugandans, who participates pays some money towards the cause. The event brought together all categories of people from government, non-governmental organizations, civil society, private sector as well as individual well-wishers plus refugees themselves. Ugandans say participating in the marathon is a way to voice their solidarity with the refugees. They believe through such events, their relationship will be cemented, too. Many other events will follow, in future, organizers believe.
