By Sunday dark smoke’s being plumed from South Sudan’s oil fields, and could be seen from Bentiu town nearly 50 kilometres away. The Greater Pioneer Operating Company or GPOC operates the oil fields there. There is no official statement from the company yet. There have been concerns, especially from environmentalists about repeated oil spill in the past. They accuse the company as well as South Sudan government for negligence, hence causing both alarming health and environmental issues.
