Uganda government officials warn South Sudanese refugees, living in various refugee settlements to refrain from involving themselves in the local politics. Under Uganda’s refugees legislation; found in the Refugee Act of 2006, it states, quote, unquote “a recognised refugee shall not engage in any political activities within Uganda, whether at local or national level”. Even though they cannot vote; refugees mostly the youth always join supporters of various politicians in their localities. This has angered government officials who insist; “the youngsters must keep away from any political events taking place.” Monday Mary is refugee herself, and sent us this report.
