The geographical location of the Murchison National Park is along the roads network connecting districts and cities especially in Northern Uganda. These continue to attract tourists in the country since there is too many to see while accessing the road.

However, for the local people in the area, the presence of wildlife along the area continues to instigate fear as running into such animals could mean life or death matter. Larger animals such as Elephants, Lions and Tigers often claim lives in the wee hours of their passage.

Celestino Odongo is a 40 year-old man whose life was robbed off from Nwoya Distict while travelling on a bike. Reports recorded by the police states that the duo ran into herds of elephants about 3kilometers into the Murchison National Park along the Karuma – Pakwach highway. Park rangers’ efforts to save him didn’t yield any better.

Justine Odong, the Chairperson of Koch Lii Sub County confirmed that elephants have overtime posed fear of deaths and destruction of properties in the area. The Aswa river regional police spokesperson, Mr. David Ongom Mudong also confirmed they have received reports of the trampling of the 40 years old man.

Similar incident was reported in Pabbo sub-county after three elephants attacked and killed an elderly woman.
